The other day, Norton High had their first loss in two seasons on Monday against Bellingham. Though this loss weighs heavy on all our hearts, is it that bad? The loss against Bellingham (by one point) can now be our driving force for the rest of the season and at the TVL championship.
Losses can be a positive reinforcement for a team or a group. In the 2014 NBA playoffs, the Oklahoma City Thunder faced the Memphis Grizzlies in their Game 2 and lost 111-105. Kevin Durant of the OKC was disgruntled at the outcome of the game, but he didn't let that hinder his positive demeanor. In fact, Durant praised Memphis defender Tony Allen for his quality skills displayed in that game. "He's good...he's been making me work like everyone else would" (Durant to Andrew Gilman of Fox Sports Southwest). Durant used the loss and the competition of what he believes to be an equally matched player to better himself in the game and start playing his advantages.
On all teams: sports, political parties, school related groups, winning is great until you lose sight of competition and start thinking nothing can beat you. Losing gives you an opponent that knows they can win and you work ten times harder to beat them the next time around. Losing is a crucial part to the development of a strong team.
